Hi, 2nd year living in the house. Didn’t escrow. Ran into some emergencies and had to wipe my savings.. Property tax is due on the 16th and I’m unable to fully pay my property tax. I can’t really borrow the money from friends and family. Recently got a new job, but the paycheck doesn’t hit til lthe 30th. Can you use a credit card? Any advice helps.
Check with your city as to whether or not you can pay with a credit card. Many places will let you but will charge you a “convenience fee” to cover the fees they pay to the credit card companies. You can also check with your city to find out what the consequences are of a late payment. Many cities will just charge interest on the overdue balance, which if you are going to be able to pay it off within 2 weeks shouldn’t be too terrible.
There will be consequences for late payment, but it will vary by locality. Call and talk to someone to consider your options. Don’t ignore the problem or it will get worse.
Read the tax bill. It will tell you when and if a penalty will be charged.
Literally just paid my property tax with a credit card. Go ahead and logon and see what the costs are. Usually there is a small convenience charge tacked on.
It will also explicitly spell out what the late fees are.
Your mortgage company might pay it and establish an escrow.
