I just found a new job after being let go from my old one a couple weeks ago, I have worked enough to cover my bills but I don’t get my first paycheck until much later and i’ve already extended my payment for too long. I feel like I have done every single thing I could do to make a few bucks on the side but it hasn’t been enough and its starting to feel hopeless. I don’t want to go into debt but is it my only option here?
Sell something if you have something you can part with. Pick up a quick job (yard work for neighbors, dog walking, etc depending on where you are) for cash. Borrow from friends or family.
You can call everyone you owe money to and ask for an extension. If your payment history is good some companies will waive late fees or push out your due date one time.
You could check into selling plasma.
If you have anything of value to pawn, you could get some cash that way, and redeem the items once you get paid.
A while ago I was short and called my auto finance company and they asked if I wanted to push the payment to the end of the loan. Worth a try.
As the other commenter suggested, selling an asset for cash or doing a very ad hoc side job ASAP can earn you some money short term. Borrowing from friends or family is better than borrowing from a payday lender, but it has its pros and cons.
I’d say you can ask for a pay advance, but sounds like you haven’t started yet so doubt they’d be open to that, and you also don’t want to start on a bad foot. If you do end up taking a pay day loan, pay it off ASAP. Don’t let it hurt you more than for a few bucks in interest.
Which bills we talking? Rent? Electric? Just trying to understand potential impact. Is it like credit ding or lose your home?
Do you have friends or colleagues you could borrow from and gradually pay back like $20-$50/week once you start getting paid? If you borrow, establish a payback schedule up front
Which bill is it? Pay things like rent, your car payment, and car insurance. But utilities and things like your phone, you may be able to put them off. Call the company and express an intention to pay, and say you are only going to be 2 weeks late because you got a new job, most credit card companies will work with you.
Do you have a credit card you can take a cash advance from? Deposit to your checking account, pay your bills, and pay off that cash advance ASAP from your first paycheck. Make sure your payment goes against the cash advance; you may have to read your credit card’s fine print to find out in which order payments are applied.
Call the local contractors. Go to one of the temp agencies like manpower. Talk to some of the yard cleanup people. Just look for them working on the am. Red cross is hounding me for platelets
They don’t pay but i’d be surprised if other companies aren’t giving bonuses. Go to the busiest bars and restaurants and see if they have work
You can try apps that give cash advances like Dave or Earnin
Hit the local lowes, Home Depot, etc and offer yourself as a day laborer. Use a sign if you need too.
