So, I have a very decent paying job with a pension when I retire and if I stay for 20 more years I will be set for retirement. The problem I have is that I don’t find it particularly challenging. Should I stay with the security or find something that I know will pay less for more of a challenge?
“Pay less”…. Hell nah. Instead how about you start playing some videogames for a challenge? Or just do some extreme sports.
Not challenging + WFH = leverage your downtime for personal growth
Not challenging + onsite = you’re going to go insane long before reaching pension eligibility, start planning your exit
I would keep the easy job and explore my personal interests and hobbies, but ultimately it’s up to you and what you value.
Do you actually have a few options laid out for alternative roles?
It sounds like you are deciding between staying and going, you can’t really decide what’s better between the two because “going” isn’t a defined thing.
Define what “going” means and model out specifically the opportunity costs and benefits of each decision
Thats something for you to decide. You know yourself, better than any of us.
Unless you don’t understand all of the pros and cons of this decision (ask specifically if not) then the decision is yours and yours alone.
