I always read that PayPal is extremely buyer friendly, and almost always favors the buyer. Many years ago someone charged back a purchase for a few hundred dollars and it was a total loss.
Now I’m about to sell something (100% legal, yet against PayPal’s rules which would disqualify the trade from g&s protections anyway) for $1,800 and don’t want to get ripped off.
What are some safer alternatives to PayPal? Western Union is always an option, but I feel as though so many scammers use that method that it would make me look like one.
In person and in cash.
Wire transfer.
Money order/cashiers check, but no shipping for 2 weeks to ensure the check fully clears. And absolutely no “overpayment” check with you “refunding” the scammer.
– any transaction can be a scam so it goes back to who are your buyers. I know the rules I had when I was selling on ebay weeded out all buyers who had fewer than 20 transactions and less than a 100% positive rating. That was my minimum for people to place bids on my stuff
Apple Pay Cash, Venmo, or cash app are what I usually use
I agree with cash or wire. However, if you’re not mentally prepared for a possible physical altercation I would scratch cash. Wire can be dicey because not everyone is familiar or versed in how to send/receive wires. Crypto is an option IF once again you’re versed in the monetary effects. Otherwise, I would choose Apple Pay. The only reason why is at least for Visa/MC they have no chargeback liability rights for the bank. This doesn’t mean someone can’t attempt a chargeback on a fraudulent transaction. This means that under most circumstances they wouldn’t be able to debit the merchant for recovery (i.e. Apple) furthermore you. A dispute is possible, but at least from the cases I see Apple and the other wallets bat these away. Just my two cents.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about Cash App, Venmo, or any P2P that the bank has chargeback rights. These are usually debited under 3 particular reason codes and those companies will usually debit you if they took a chargeback. The exception is PayPal if you qualified for a SPP or guaranteed program that shielded you in case of fraud.
Cash only. Or PP family and friends
Zelle? Although that provides no protection for the buyer, so they may not like that. I always try to sell stuff locally and meet at their bank for the exchange, but that’s not always an option.

rest of the website is very good.
Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely
long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any points for inexperienced blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.
