Title basically covers it. Selling a couch on Facebook marketplace and a guy messages me almost instantly. Then has me text him pictures to show to his SO because he’s on a PC. Who uses a PC for Facebook anymore? Then says via text that I’m too far away and would like to send movers. His profile also appears to be about 2 hours old as of the time of this post and has no pictures or friends but isn’t set to private which is super sketchy. Does this all sound as scammy to y’all as it does to me?
- Next Insurance EOB says I owe zero for a noncovered charge?
- Previous Dentist is coming after me for a bill I thought was settled months ago
If the movers bring cash with them, fine. But the scam is where they send you a fake cashiers check for thousands extra to “pay the movers”
>Who uses a PC for Facebook anymore?
Lots of people who distrust the app. And for good reason, that thing is almost as bad as the tiktok one in terms of being glorified spyware.
Likely a scam if the profile is brand new. Unless the couch is super high end why would you hire movers to drive 2 hrs for a used couch? For that investment they could buy new.
Have fun with it.
Agree and if they show up without the money, laugh and lock them outside
Any mention of “movers” is a scam.
You can play it out if you want. They’ll send a fake check for more than the asking price. They’ll ask you to wire or Venmo money to [email protected], their “moving company”.
In a few days the check will bounce. Any money you sent out is gone forever. They aren’t in your country, there are no movers, and they don’t care about your item for sale.
(The only reason he asked for pictures to be texted was he wanted to move the communication off of Facebook so Facebook doesn’t delete his scam account.)
This is a scam. They will try and give you more money than the item costs and ask you to forward the difference to the movers and then their payment will get reversed.
I’m pretty sure every major p2p marketplace specifically warns against this.
Yes, this is a scam. Ignore it and move on.
