Is it normal for a bonus to be taxed so heavily?

I was excited to get a $7500 bonus. But after taxes I only cleared $4600.

I make $75k a year and based on my check it looks like they gave me this bonus after withholding my 401k contribution, so only $7100 was actually taxed.

Is that a Normal amount?

My husband also got his bonus and was a bit annoyed by taxes too. He got $5700 but only cleared $4800. However, it seems he got taxed less than me somehow.

Does it all just depend on how the employer sets it up? Do you typically see a better refund in January after being taxed so high on bonuses?
