First of all, why is it so fucking hard to cancel a membership? I feel like I’m stuck in a cult. Any tips on canceling the membership? The fee is listed that you pay 50% of remaining balance which is such a scam.
Please help. I’ve been wanting to cancel.
Change your debit/credit card number (lost card) and cancel, then they cant charge you the 50% of remaining cost. They’re struggling to stay afloat and will take all they can. (This is not financial advice but a fun way to stick it to them)
Kinda screwed unless you have someone on the inside. Since you signed their contract, which would’ve stipulated this clause and possibly told you this when you signed up.
Its very possible that they could, only do what you feel comfortable with. Quite frankly its just a matter of time before theres litigation against them. Also considering their forced payment through the pandemic.
You signed a contract. They aren’t usually easy or cheap to cancel. Next time find a gym that doesn’t make you sign a contract.
Your contract tells you how to cancel, you are stuck to whatever it says.
If you want to fight it, make a big fucking stink. Write your state attorney general, contact the Better Business Bureau, go on the gym’s social media and make a huge ass stink. They will have to decide if it isn’t cheaper to just drop the matter and get you off their ass. Yes, you may owe it, but if you want to play tough guy/gal, you can win. It just depends on the value of your time.
The morals of the story – 1) the more high pressure the sales person, the faster you run. 2) if you didn’t run fast enough, read and understand the contract and 3) never listen to them say it’s just regular stuff and not worry about it
I guess there is one more – go everyday for as long as possible keep a calendar with the date you can cancel & get as much out of them while under contract.
After that you will be so strong and when they try and get you to sign again state them straight in the eye and intimidate the hell out of them!
